Authorities Act Swiftly to Ensure Public Safety and Exam Continuity
ISLAMABAD: In a proactive move to safeguard students and the public amid recent cross-border tensions, authorities in Islamabad and Rawalpindi have taken decisive yet measured steps. Educational institutions in both cities will remain closed temporarily, allowing officials to focus on maintaining peace and order. However, students appearing in international exams such as A and O levels can proceed with confidence, as those exams will continue as scheduled.
The Rawalpindi Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education has postponed upcoming matric and intermediate examinations out of an abundance of caution. Board Chairman Adnan Khan assured students that a revised schedule will be announced soon, and all candidates will be informed well in advance. He encouraged students to keep an eye on the official BISE website and reliable news sources for updates.
In Islamabad, Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon issued a statement confirming that all public and private educational institutions, including universities and training centers, will remain closed on May 9 and 10. Nonetheless, exam schedules remain unaffected—ensuring academic momentum is maintained for those preparing for key assessments.
In a commendable display of civic engagement, the Islamabad administration has invited citizens to volunteer for the Civil Defense. The campaign, promoted through official social media channels, calls on patriotic individuals to support local efforts in keeping the city safe. Interested volunteers are encouraged to bring their ID cards and visit the Deputy Commissioner’s office.
Addressing public concerns, the DC Office clarified that while a few individuals have attempted to create panic by spreading false alarms, swift action is being taken to maintain calm and order. Citizens are strongly advised to rely solely on verified information provided through official government platforms and to steer clear of rumors.
To strengthen emergency preparedness, a 24/7 district control room has been set up at the Safe City Authority facility in Sector H-11. A high-level coordination meeting was also convened, attended by representatives from hospitals, law enforcement, emergency services, and key public utilities. All departments were instructed to remain alert and ensure smooth coordination in case of any developments.
