PU to Award HEC Needs-Based Scholarships to 250 Students

LAHORE, April 21, 2026 — Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali has reaffirmed the university’s commitment to a fair and transparent scholarship selection process, stressing that academic performance and genuine financial need will guide every award decision.

Speaking at a ceremony held to mark the launch of the Higher Education Commission’s Needs-Based Scholarship Program for the 2025–26 academic year, the vice chancellor announced that 250 deserving students would receive financial support under the initiative. Director of Planning & Development Prof. Dr. Hafiz Muhammad Anwar Asghar, along with faculty members and senior university officials, attended the event.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Muhammad Ali said the program is designed to remove economic barriers that prevent talented but financially disadvantaged students from accessing higher education. He underscored that the university’s partnership with HEC reflects an enduring dedication to equal educational opportunity and the pursuit of academic excellence.

The vice chancellor further noted that scholarship initiatives of this nature go beyond financial relief—they empower students to concentrate fully on their studies and equip them to make meaningful contributions to society. He added that the university administration would continue to seek collaborations with national institutions to broaden access to quality education for students from all backgrounds.

The HEC Needs-Based Scholarship Programme forms part of a wider national strategy to strengthen Pakistan’s higher education sector by ensuring that financial hardship is never a barrier to a student’s potential.
