HEC Announces Registration and Test Dates for Law-GAT 2026

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has officially announced the schedule for the Law Graduate Assessment Test (Law-GAT) 2026, which is required for law graduates seeking enrollment as advocates in Pakistan. The test will be conducted by the Education Testing Council (ETC) under the supervision of HEC.

According to the announcement, candidates who have completed a bachelor’s degree in law or an equivalent qualification from a university recognized by HEC or the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) are eligible to apply.

Online registration will begin on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at 2:00pm, while the Law-GAT will be held on Sunday, April 5, 2026. Any changes to the test schedule will be shared through the official HEC website.

The Law-GAT will consist of multiple-choice questions (MCQs), and candidates must score at least 50 marks out of 100 to pass. The syllabus and test format can be downloaded from the HEC website.

ETC conducts the Law-GAT four times a year in major cities across Pakistan, with complete details available in the 2026 ETC Test Calendar. Applicants can choose their preferred test centre; however, ETC may change the centre if fewer than 250 candidates register at a selected location.

HEC has clarified that candidates who have already passed the Law-GAT, those who have used all seven allowed attempts, and students currently enrolled in a law degree program are not eligible to apply.

The commission further emphasized that passing the Law-GAT alone does not grant the right to practice law. Candidates must also fulfill all additional requirements set by the Pakistan Bar Council for enrollment as advocates.

The last date to apply online is Tuesday, March 3, 2026. For more information, candidates are advised to visit the official HEC website or contact ETC helplines.
