Over 3,000 Punjab Schools Declared Dangerous Ahead of Monsoon Season

LAHORE – July 24, 2025: As the monsoon season picks up across Punjab, more than 3,000 Punjab schools declared dangerous. Buildings have been marked as dangerous and structurally weak, putting thousands of students and teachers at serious risk.

Despite several warnings and inspection reports over the past few years, the Punjab School Education Department has not taken meaningful action to repair or rebuild many of these schools.

🏫 punjab Schools Declared Dangerous In Rainy Season

Districts affected include Lahore, Faisalabad, Narowal, Multan, Bahawalpur, and Rawalpindi. In Lahore alone, hundreds of schools are either partially damaged or completely unsafe.

Many of these buildings have:

  • Cracked walls
  • Exposed electric wiring
  • Water-filled classrooms
  • Roofs that leak or have already collapsed

Even light rain causes roof leaks in some schools, while heavy rain or strong winds may lead to structural failure.

⚠️ Years of Delay in Repairs

Officials had declared these school buildings as “unfit” long ago and issued instructions for urgent repairs. However, only minimal work has been done so far.

Now, with the academic year starting in August, many fear that students will return to dangerous learning environments.

💰 Government Promises Rs5 Billion for Repairs

In the new budget, the Punjab government has allocated Rs5 billion to rebuild schools that are flood-damaged or structurally unsafe. This funding includes repairs for many buildings flagged in recent safety audits.

📢 Experts Demand Urgent Action

Education experts and civil society organizations are demanding:

  • A clear timeline for reconstruction
  • Transparent use of funds
  • Regular progress updates
  • Oversight committees to monitor the repair work

They stress that quick and responsible action is needed to protect children’s safety and education during the rainy season.

If these repairs are not completed on time, thousands of students may have no choice but to study in unsafe classrooms, risking their lives every day.
