Private Schools Reject Summer Vacations Extension

The All Pakistan Private Schools Management Association has strongly opposed the Punjab government’s decision to extend summer vacations until September 1, calling it “unnecessary” and “harmful” for students’ education.

The criticism came after Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat announced on social media that all public and private schools would reopen in September due to the ongoing heatwave, citing student health and safety.

School Reopening Schedule Changed

In a statement, the association argued that schools in Islamabad reopened on August 4 and other provinces have also resumed classes, leaving Punjab as the only region with such a long closure. It warned that keeping students out of classrooms for almost three months would slow learning, disrupt the academic calendar, and hurt board exam preparation.

The group suggested the government could reopen schools under strict health SOPs, or allow board classes to start in phases, to minimize academic loss. It urged authorities to reconsider the decision in the best interest of students.
