LAHORE: The Punjab government announced February 6, 2026, as a local holiday for Lahore, with Basant festival celebrations. This holiday was instituted after the district administration recommended it on the grounds that it would enable residents to celebrate the holiday safely.
While the administration suggested February 5 as a holiday, the provincial government chose February 6. For safety reasons, the Lahore Deputy Commissioner has announced that children below the age of 18 can only go kite flying with their family.
With the event coming up, Lahore has been divided into three zones (red, yellow, and green) for safety, depending on their density and sensitivity. Lahore officials have said there will be no illegal activities, such as chemical string use, shooting guns into the air, and drinking on roofs. Drones and other modern surveillance technology will be used to monitor the city for the three-day event.
